Aspects of Note This Week
All times listed are Pacific Standard Time. For Greenwich Mean Time, add 8 hours.
MON: Venus conjunct Chiron
TUE: Venus sextile Ceres
WED: Mercury semisquare Saturn

SUN: Mars enters Capricorn, Mercury goes retrograde

AT TIMES, the old patterns may seem so entrenched, the barriers so impenetrable, the problems so complex, it can be hard to see how we’re ever going to break through them. No doubt we’re experiencing the Saturn half of the Saturn-Pluto combo when the feelings of discouragement and hopelessness arise. Both planets can bring up fears, but Saturn’s impact can be especially weighty in this regard.
.

The good news is that we are not destined to be stuck forever. But with Pluto in Capricorn involved in this process, transformation must go very deep, and the changes must be integrated at profound levels. Merely working on individual symptoms will no longer suffice. Root causes must be unearthed and entire systems renovated.

.

FOR PERSPECTIVE, the last time Saturn and Pluto aligned in Capricorn was in January 1518. Just two months before that date, the Catholic monk Martin Luther posted his “Disputation on the Power and Efficacy of Indulgences” on a church door in Wittenberg, Germany. This document, which came to be known as “The 95 Theses,” called out the corruption that had taken over the Catholic Church.

.

At that time, the Church wielded great authority and political power. Luther’s seemingly minor act of rebellion ignited the passion that grew into the Protestant Reformation, a movement that over time substantially changed the political and religious landscape of the Western world.

.

One of my favorite parts of this bit of history is the title of Luther’s paper. While I don’t know for sure, I doubt that he was thinking astrologically when he wrote it. But it is stunning that he used the words “Power” and “Efficacy” in the title, concepts that link directly to Pluto (power) and Saturn (efficacy).

MARS moves into Capricorn next Sunday, a transit that will last until March 30. On a personal level, Mars in Capricorn can help us apply effort and determination to achieve long-term goals. Progress is slow but sure, and requires determination, discipline, and patience.

.

The shadow side of Mars in Capricorn can manifest as aggressive displays of authority, and single-minded focus on a goal with a lack of regard for the feelings of others. It will not be surprising if the political antagonism increases over the next six weeks, especially while Mars is out of bounds (February 9 to March 12) and expressing more maverick-like qualities.

.
WHEN MARS enters Capricorn, it joins fellow planets Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto, the asteroid Pallas Athene, and the South Node, already in the sign. This is a lot of Capricorn energy, which can feel pretty heavy at times.
.

If you feel overwhelmed, remember that the North Node is in Cancer. The North Node is our signpost, revealing the evolutionary path that will help us successfully navigate current challenges. It is more important than ever to focus on being heart-centered. This means having empathy for others, trusting in the process, allowing your heart to guide your decisions, asking for help when needed, and making self-care a priority.

.

RELATIONSHIPS benefit from the planetary influences that begin the coming week. Venus aligns with healer Chiron on Monday, and is in harmonious aspect (sextile) with nurturing Ceres on Tuesday. Both of these aspects provide opportunities for us to bring greater compassion and acceptance into our relationships with loved ones, friends, and family.
.

At the same time, both aspects also require that we allow others and ourselves independence and autonomy (Venus/Chiron in Aries, Ceres in Aquarius). The healing comes as we are able to trust that being an individual with personal needs does not preclude being in loving relationship with others. Instead, being true to self can enhance our connections, as each person is able to bring their most authentic self to the interaction.

.

MERCURY begins its retrograde (backward) phase next Sunday. For the ensuing three weeks, until Mercury goes direct on March 9, we are encouraged to be more introspective than usual. This is usually a time when we benefit more from reviewing our plans than from implementing new ideas.
.
However, life goes on, and we often need to make decisions during a Mercury-retrograde period. If this is true for you, just take your time. If you feel pressured to make a decision, do your best to delay action until your mind is clearer and you are able to breathe calmly. Intuition may actually be stronger during Mercury retrograde, but it can’t be rushed.
 .
The only time I’ve had real problems with a Mercury retrograde was when I was rushing to get a project finished just hours before Mercury stationed. I was so intent on getting it submitted before that exact minute when Mercury went retrograde, I didn’t take the time to fully understand the instructions. The results were not pretty! But, the problems that followed could have been avoided if I had taken the pressure off myself and taken the time that was needed – even if it meant hitting the “send” button while Mercury was already moving backward.

.

THE MESSENGER PLANET is in mystical Pisces right now, so we may already be feeling some of that call to be more inwardly focused. Mercury in Pisces is happiest when it is writing poetry, meditating, expressing compassion, doing dream work, or similarly applying the logical mind in creative or spiritual pursuits.

.
Retrograde Mercury will revisit Aquarius for about twelve days, from March 4 to 16. During that time, we may be more able to receive higher-level insights, to think outside our usual parameters, and to allow ourselves to conceive of entirely new and perhaps audacious ideas.
.
It may be harder to be especially clear-headed on practical matters while Mercury is retrograde. But be sure to record the insights and intuitive hits you receive. Like dream images, they can fade quickly if we don’t capture them in some way. Then give your ideas time to germinate. The best time to implement them may be once Mercury enters proactive Aries on April 10.
.

FOR THOSE who are taking note of when the Moon triggers the Jupiter-Saturn-Pluto effect, I’m listing below the days and times for this week. Lunar aspects are not as powerful as outer-planet transits, but they can activate events related to longer-term influences. When the Moon forms hard aspects to these three planets in Capricorn, we may see “next steps” in the process of transmutation that is already underway.

.

If you’re feeling especially emotional around these times, it can be helpful to know that it’s related to the collective experience, even if it feels very personal. And it is often reassuring to know that the Moon moves quickly, so that its aspects are usually in effect for only a few hours.

.

Exact aspects this week, while the Moon is in Libra:

.
• Moon-Jupiter square: Wednesday, February 12, at 5:54 p.m. PST
• Moon-Pluto square: Thursday, February 13, at 6:20 a.m.
• Moon-Saturn square: Thursday, February 13, at 10:46 a.m. PST

.

IF YOUR BIRTHDAY IS THIS WEEK: This year, you have many opportunities for new adventures, and have the courage to travel new roads. Some of these journeys may be independently-inspired, but you also may be inclined to work with a partner.  As an individualistic Aquarius, you may surprise yourself at your increased ability to accommodate another person’s perspective. If you connect with the right partner, each of you will feel supported in being your authentic self, while also being willing to cooperate. (Solar Return Sun sextile Mars, trine Juno)

Aspects of Note This Week
All times listed are Pacific Standard Time. For Greenwich Mean Time, add 8 hours.
MON: Sun enters Aquarius, Venus semisquare Saturn
WED: Sun semisquare Neptune, Sun sextile Chiron, Sun square Uranus
THU: Venus sextile Jupiter, Venus semisquare Ceres
FRI: New Moon 1:41 p.m. PST, Uranus trine Pallas Athene
SAT: Mercury sextile Mars
SUN: Pluto square Eris, Mercury semisquare Chiron, Venus square Mars

THE EXACT Saturn-Pluto alignment, when both planets were at precisely the same degree of Capricorn, is now technically behind us. But major astrological events such as this usually affect us for many months beyond the moment of their perfection. It’s impossible to contain the ripple of waves once a large boulder has been dropped into a body of water. The displacement of energies continues to play itself out for quite a while.

.

And, with so many planets joining Saturn and Pluto in earthy Capricorn at the time of their rendezvous — plus the Lunar Eclipse that occurred two days before — it’s not surprising that we’ve been feeling overwhelmed. The world has been feeling top-heavy, and for some, it’s turned completely upside down.
.
IMAGINE trying to keep your shoulders level while carrying a very heavy weight in one hand, and you can appreciate the effect of having so many planets in one sign. Perhaps you are likewise feeling that your life has shifted out of balance, due to a specific heavy load you are carrying. Or, it may be the sheer magnitude of juggling so much at once that is causing overwhelm.
.
Some of the balls we are juggling are actually filled with light, for there is also magic that we can access now. As Saturn and Pluto dismantle social systems and personal patterns, they are also dismantling time and other constructs that have held physical reality separate from other dimensions.
.

PERHAPS you are feeling “head over heels” rather than feeling that life has turned upside-down. But, whether you feel like you are floating or your feet feel as heavy as lead, it is very important to get plenty of rest and good sleep right now.

.

As physical structures, our bodies are deeply affected by this Saturn-Pluto alignment in Capricorn. Many people are experiencing health issues, often in their joints, bones, teeth, and other bodily systems ruled by Capricorn. While we can bemoan having these symptoms, it may help to remember that these planets are only revealing where there is structural weakness, not causing it.
.
This is our opportunity to clear out what is of a lower vibration so that we can rebuild with higher-frequency “materials.” We can assist the process by raising the vibration of our mental and emotional bodies. One way to do this is by connecting with the light of our Divine Self that resides at the center of our being. Some people imagine this as a pole of light along the spine, or a sphere of light in the heart area.
.
Once we connect there, we can then imagine this light of our Being radiating out, expanding into our physical, emotional, and mental bodies. This can be very helpful in clearing out all that is of a lower frequency, while also providing a higher vibration to be used in the rebuilding process.

.

THE GRADUAL MIGRATION of the faster-moving planets out of Capricorn should help us move beyond some of the places where we’ve been feeling stuck. Mercury moved into Aquarius last Friday, bringing forward new information that shifted our perspective in some way. As a result, we now have a clearer view of the road ahead.

.

This Monday, the Sun also enters Aquarius, supporting us to move beyond restrictions and into a new paradigm. And, Ceres will enter Aquarius at the end of this month, helping us more fully accept, appreciate, and support individual differences.

.

SOME SURPRISES
are again in store this week. The Sun squares unpredictable Uranus on Wednesday, and Friday’s New Moon is also square that planet. This lunation marks the end of the official “eclipse season,” but the Uranus aspects may make it feel like we still are engaged with eclipse-like energies.

.
Sometimes, surprises seem to be arranged simply to keep us flexible. Other times, they are larger in scope – literal or symbolic earthquakes or lightning bolts – designed to jar us out of complacency or a comfort zone, so that we might be liberated in some way. Most of us tend to become creatures of habit over time. One of Uranus’ task is to alter our course so that we no longer travel the same rutted road we are used to taking.

.

THE NEW MOON
occurs at 1:41 p.m. PST on Friday, when the Sun and Moon are both at 04°21′ Aquarius. The square to Uranus is the most significant aspect in the New Moon chart, indicating that the coming lunar cycle is one of continued change.

.

Uranus has been called the “god of chaos,” and we often see somewhat chaotic situations occurring when it is activated. B
ut it also has higher vibrational qualities, revealed through the translation of the Greek word Ouranos (Uranus), which means “the sky crowned with stars.”

.

Astrologer Liz Greene writes that Uranus “reflects our universal human longing to know where we are going and why.” She acknowledges that:

.

“Many people find it difficult to express Uranus, for they are required to detach themselves from their immediate emotional needs and look toward a bigger future design … Yet if we avoid expressing Uranus, its creative power will erupt into our world in spite of
us – through change that we unconsciously need, and in some cases even provoke, but which we may experience as personally devastating when it arrives. The heavenly vision of Uranus may sometimes feel impersonal and cold, yet it offers us greater freedom through a new and broader perspective on our lives.”

.

THE DIVERGENT ROAD that we start to walk with this Aquarian New Moon is likely to take us into unknown territory, where we continually need to broaden our perspective. We may also feel very strongly about certain issues, given that the Moon is aligned with the fixed star Alshat. Roderick Kidston writes that Alshat “prompts an urge to stand for something,” but that it also conveys great strength and courage.

.

This new lunar cycle will inspire many to take a stand, speak loudly, and perhaps even demand to be heard. How we each use this influence depends on our core values, and how we want to direct its powerful energies.

WEBINAR ANNOUNCEMENT

Image

After the Tornado
Airing Live and Recorded for Replay
Thursday, January 30, 2020
4 pm PST | 5 pm MST | 6 pm CST | 7 pm EST | 12 midnight GMT

AS THE FIRST SCENES of “The Wizard of Oz” unfold, a tornado upends Dorothy’s world. It is the beginning of her hero’s journey, through which she eventually discovers how strong she truly is. Along the way, she encounters like-minded souls and gains a new sense of connection and community.
.

We’ve been talking for months about the astrological tornado of January 2020. During a single week, from January 8 to 15, an amazing number of significant planetary events occurred, clustered around a powerful Lunar Eclipse and the alignment between Saturn and Pluto.
.

IN THIS 90-MINUTE WEBINAR, I will first talk about how our experiences in January relate to these astrological events. This review is important to undertake, because our path through the rest of 2020 directly relates to what occurs in January.
.

From there, we’ll “ease on down the road” and explore in more depth the primary opportunities and obstacles we’ll encounter in the first half of 2020. Highlights include:

  • Jupiter’s alignments with Pluto, when spin-off tornados may occur, but we also have the opportunity for deep systemic change
  • Saturn’s entry into Aquarius and return to Capricorn, demanding progress and requiring completion of the old
  • The shift of the nodal axis into Gemini/Sagittarius, adding another level of karmic completion and evolutionary growth into the dynamic
  • The alignments of Pallas Athena with Jupiter and Pluto, inspiring new solutions and the empowerment of the feminine

Before the class airs, you’ll receive calendars of January through June, which you can use for note-taking. During the last half of class, we’ll move week-by-week through each monthly calendar, noting when there are important events. As always, I will do my best to “bring the stars down to Earth,” explaining in practical terms what the planets are doing, how they may affect us, and how we can best navigate these times by focusing on higher purposes and our own capacity for spiritual maturity.
.

I hope you can join us! If you can’t attend live, the class is recorded for replay at your convenience. All registrants receive an email with a link to the replay, audio replay, and PDF slideshow.

TO REGISTER: Visit https://pamfeb-june2020.eventbrite.com. The class fee is $33. Payment and registration may be handled online via PayPal or by check to Elsie Kerns, 2007 Rabbit Run Rd., Marlton, NJ 08053.

IF YOUR BIRTHDAY IS THIS WEEK:Each time we think we know ourselves, we are then challenged to further refine our self-awareness. Over the coming year, you will experience yet another phase of self-redefinition. The urge to speak your truth is stronger than ever, and yet it can cause conflict and separation if you are not alert to right timing. If those who hear your ideas are not truly receptive, your words will fall on “deaf ears,” and your frustration will grow. Your unique insights and perspectives are needed, but you will need to apply discipline and foresight to how and when they are shared. This is not manipulation; it is being truly in accord with your inner guidance, which knows best timing for all endeavors. (Solar Return Sun square Uranus)

MON: Saturn conjunct Ceres, Sun conjunct Pluto, Sun conjunct Saturn, Sun conjunct Ceres, Venus enters Pisces, Sun square Eris, Ceres square Eris

WE ARE THERE. This is what I am calling “tornado week,” the week that astrologers have been talking and writing about for literally years. The lineup of planetary events that occurs over the next eight days is both spectacular and powerful.

(To see the full list of this week’s astrological events, scroll down to the “Aspects of Note This Week” section of this newsletter. I’ve included aspects that perfect next Monday, January 13, since the energies of Sunday and Monday being so tightly linked.)  [moved above]

There’s so much going on, it’s a lot to digest all at once. I’ll do my best to break it down into manageable bites. All the same, you might want to get a cup of your favorite beverage and sit down. We’re going to be here a while.

WE’RE ALREADY FEELING many of the influences, of course. Astrological aspects that involve slower-moving planets can be in effect for months or even years. Consider that an aspect such the Saturn-Pluto alignment is like climbing a mountain. We’re on the upward trail for a long time before we reach the peak the date of the exact aspect. Then
we’re on the downward trail for a long time as well.

We’ve been climbing this particular Saturn-Pluto mountain for most of 2019. Next Sunday, we reach the peak. The air is thinner here, and it can be hard to catch our breath. We are reminded with each step how important self-care truly is.

We may need to stop often and just focus on breathing, slowly and deeply. We must nourish our bodies and rest so that we have the strength we need. We must also feed our minds positive thoughts so that we do not become discouraged. And, we need to reach out and offer support to fellow climbers who are struggling.

WHAT IS PERHAPS most stunning about this week’s long list of planetary aspects is that they are almost all interrelated. With my apologies to those readers whose eyes glaze over with too much astrology, here’s an overview of why I’m calling this “tornado week”:

  • Next Sunday, we have the long-awaited Saturn-Pluto alignment. When the two planets exactly align at 22°46′ Capricorn on Sunday, they are also tightly conjunct the Sun, Mercury, Ceres, and Charilko. The Saturn-Pluto alignment only occurs every 35 years or so. To have all the other planets also tightly involved makes this event extremely rare.
  • On Friday, the Lunar Eclipse occurs at 20°00′ Cancer, with the Moon opposing all of those planets in Capricorn – and closely square both Eris in Aries and Juno in Libra. At the same time, the Sun and Mercury are both in hard aspect to warrior Mars.
  • Also on eclipse day, Eris and Uranus BOTH station direct.

The only big event not attached to these others, but highly significant on its own, is on Wednesday, when we have the exact Jupiter-South Node alignment.

THE BOTTOM LINE is that we are at a pivotal time in human history. As the astrology suggests, much is coming to a crisis point in 2020, and this first month of the year is especially critical. We need only briefly scan global and local headlines to see this manifesting.

It is impossible to process all that is occurring. This is one of the ways that Pluto often works. It brings about situations that are outside of our conscious control, so that we learn new ways of managing our reactions. Through the experience, we find new levels of inner strength. Plutonian events shift our perspective and ultimately empower us, sometimes to take action, but always to be in greater awareness of our own capacities.

On an individual level, if we are not dealing directly with a crisis right now, it is important not to go into overwhelm. While there may be ways in which we are drawn to respond outwardly, we can also make great contribution by moving into center, into our hearts, holding a calm space, and embodying the peace we want to see on the planet.

AT THOSE TIMES when we feel powerless to control the outer world, we can always choose to control our own energy field. When we do this, we add much-needed, higher-frequency energies to the collective.
This is not the same as avoidance or wishful thinking. This activity, when done with conscious intention, can be even more powerful than physical action. We might call it prayer. We might call it energy work. Whatever term we use, we need that spiritual focus and energy now.
AS JUPITER aligns with the South Node in Capricorn, it amplifies the ways in which humanity is still guided by the dangerous belief that “might makes right.” We see decisions that are made from an outdated, authoritative view of reality, one in which dominance and arrogance are acceptable, and perhaps even admired.
Jupiter is holding the magnifying glass over these traits, wherever they are found. It shows in exaggerated fashion what occurs when we approach life from the stance that we can do whatever we want simply because we have the power to do so. With the U.S. coming into its Pluto return, the nation is seeing a great challenge to the belief that it is above the law, untouchable, and invulnerable.
But Jupiter also has a more palatable intention for 2020. As it journeys through Capricorn this year, Jupiter helps us aspire to and achieve the positive traits of the sign: a stronger conscience, and greater civility, integrity, humility, and honor.
FRIDAY is an incredibly powerful day. Emotions are extremely high and the tension is palpable. This is an especially crucial day for finding our center of calm in the eye of the storm.
The Cosmic Plan that decided to have an eclipse at the same time as the Saturn-Pluto alignment and for the alignment to be tightly implicated in the eclipse itself is one to ponder. And then throw in all the other planets that are involved … We really do need to sit down to have a heart-to-heart chat with the Cosmos.
I’ve taken apart the Lunar Eclipse chart to help us wrap our brains around everything that’s involved in the event. Be sure to read the very last item on this list, especially if you start to feel overwhelmed:
  • Moon in Cancer: Heightened sensitivity and empathy. Feeling protective, perhaps defensive. Desire to hide, need for emotional security.
  • Moon square Eris: Combativeness. The goddess who has been disregarded and belittled finds her voice, causing disruption.
  • Moon square Juno: Alliances challenged. Disagreements between partners.
  • Moon opposite Mercury: Communications affected (back up your computers). Travel disruptions. Information and disinformation. A war of words.
  • Moon opposite Ceres: Separation anxieties, feeling isolated. Conflict between personal needs and needs of family or homeland.
  • Moon opposite Saturn: Feeling cut off from emotional support. Need for increased self-care.
  • Moon opposite Pluto: Passionate feelings. Emotions may be compulsive, reactive, obsessive.
  • Moon opposite Charilko: Feeling conflicted over needs for self-care and the desire to hold the space for others and their healing. Remember the metaphor of putting on your own oxygen mask.
  • Moon trine Neptune: Our saving grace! See next paragraphs.

IN OUR CHATwith the Cosmos, we need to include a prayer of gratitude for Neptune’s involvement in all of these astrological events. Neptune, currently in Pisces, is in harmonious aspect to all of the planets we’ve just listed for the eclipse chart. With Neptune trine the Moon and sextile all the planets in Capricorn, it is providing a release valve for the tension of those many oppositions.
Neptune’s influence enhances our ability to transcend the emotional reactivity of these times. It allows us greater access to our intuition, creativity, spiritual perspective, and connection to the Divine. It helps us rise above the human drama, so that we might gain the vantage point of our own Soul. It increases our sensitivity and compassion, qualities that are greatly needed in our world.
AS IF the eclipse and the alignments were not enough, there are two planets that station direct on eclipse day: Eris and Uranus. When a planet stations (comes to a standstill), its influence is magnified for at least a week on either side of the date of its station.

Eris was the goddess of strive and discord. She is credited with setting events into motion that led to the Trojan War. Eris is not only stationary at the time of the eclipse, she is also in hard aspect to the Moon and all of the planets in Capricorn. As such, we can expect that someone plays the role of instigator, perhaps surreptitiously.

Uranus is known to cause upheaval, through events that happen suddenly, unexpectedly, or dramatically. Having Uranus station during an eclipse can be thought of as a “double whammy” because eclipses are thought to be Uranus-like in their effects, due to their unpredictability. With Uranus in earthy Taurus – and with Earth Mother goddess Ceres strongly involved in the eclipse – it is not surprising that there is an environmental crisis occurring now.
The good news is that Uranus is still in harmonious aspect with Jupiter and with the nodes. Although Uranus can be a wild card in any human game, this particular card could be a very positive one. Since Uranus represents the Higher Mind, these aspects provide access to higher-level information, insights, and solutions, no matter what else is going on around us.
LOOKING AT THE BIGGER PICTURE, we can benefit from viewing this time as a healing crisis. During such times, we might be overwhelmed by symptoms that seem to indicate we are getting worse, not better. And yet, if we realize that humanity is going through a detox process, we can keep a bit more hopeful perspective on events.

We may wonder what each of us can do, how we can contribute to the healing rather than exacerbating the wound.

FIRST, self-care is vital. These planetary energies are not just “out there” somewhere, causing events. They are interacting with our physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual bodies.

We may be especially aware of physical issues right now, especially in those areas of the body ruled by Capricorn: bones, joints (especially the knees), the skeletal system, connective tissue, and the skin. But even if we do not feel any physical symptoms, it is important to know that we are being inundated with all these cosmic energies. It’s vital to get plenty of rest, both at night and when we feel tired during the day.

On mental and emotional levels, too, we need to take breaks. Take a walk in nature. Listen to music. Allow your gaze to float softly over the far horizon, watch the clouds move through the sky.

ON SPIRITUAL LEVELS, there is much we can “do.” We can meditate. We can pray. We can do energy work, calling light to the areas of the planet that are in need of support. We can call on the angels, Enlightened Ones, Masters, and other interdimensional beings, whose purpose is to assist the evolution of humanity and the healing on Planet Earth. These beings exist, but because this is a planet of free will, they must hear our call before they can offer assistance.

Most of all, we can love each other. We can be kind and gentle. We can open our hearts. We can accept and respect others, ourselves, and our planet. We can be Love. We can embody Peace. It is needed. We can make this transition time into one that takes us into the positive future we all envision but, true to Capricorn’s directive, we must each take responsibility for our piece of the puzzle.

WEBINAR ANNOUNCEMENT

After the Tornado
Airing Live and Recorded for Replay
Thursday, January 30, 2020

4 pm PST | 5 pm MST | 6 pm CST | 7 pm EST | 12 midnight GMT

AS THE FIRST SCENES of “The Wizard of Oz” unfold, a tornado upends the world. It is the beginning of Dorothy’s hero’s journey, through which she eventually discovers how strong she truly is. Along the way, she encounters like-minded souls and gains a new sense of connection and community.

We’ve been talking for months about the astrological tornado of January 2020. During a single week, from January 8 to 15, an amazing number of significant planetary events occur, clustered around a powerful Lunar Eclipse and the alignment between Saturn and Pluto.

IN THIS 90-MINUTE WEBINAR, entitled “After the Tornado,” I will first talk about how our individual and collective experiences in January relate to these astrological events. This review is important to undertake, because our path through the rest of 2020 directly relates to events in January.

From there, we’ll “ease on down the road” and explore in more depth the primary opportunities and obstacles we’ll encounter in the first half of 2020. Highlights include:

  • Jupiter’s alignments with Pluto, when we could have spin-off tornados, and how they relate to events in January

During the last half of class, we’ll move week-by-week through each monthly calendar, noting when there are important developments. As always, I will do my best to “bring the stars down to Earth,” explaining in practical terms what the planets are doing, how they are likely to affect us, and how we can best navigate these momentous times by focusing on higher purposes and our own capacity for spiritual maturity.

Once you register, you will receive confirmation from orders@eventbrite.com and follow-up from noreply@eventbrite.com. Please check your spam folder if these emails do not appear in your inbox.

Questions? If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Elsie at elsie@wellnesswithelsie.com or 856.988.7426 (EST).

IF YOUR BIRTHDAY IS THIS WEEK: This is an incredibly powerful year in your life, one that you will remember as being highly pivotal. You are claiming your power in new ways, while also realizing the impact of your choices on your personal life and relationships. It is a bit of an “all or nothing” year, when you are likely to feel quite passionately about a project, while at the same time feeling completely detached and bored with another area of life. You are undergoing a deep transformation, and realigning to your higher destiny. (Solar Return Sun conjunct Mercury, conjunct Ceres, square Juno, conjunct Saturn, conjunct Pluto)

Your weekly guide to planetary influences

December 2 to 8, 2019

by Pam Younghans

Aspects of Note This Week
All times listed are Pacific Standard Time. For Greenwich Mean Time, add 8 hours.
MON: Jupiter enters Capricorn, Venus conjunct South Node, Sun conjunct Pallas Athene, Mercury sextile Pluto
TUE: Venus sextile Mars
SUN: Sun square Neptune, Venus sextile Neptune, Jupiter square Chiron

THE FIRST WEEK of December may appear relatively calm astrologically, but there’s at least one major event to discuss: Jupiter, the largest known planet in our solar system, crosses the threshold from Sagittarius into Capricorn on Monday.

Jupiter takes about 12 years to journey through the entire zodiac, spending at least one full year in each sign. Since Jupiter changes signs every 13 months or so, we might brush its sign change off as being inconsequential. However, this particular shift is noteworthy because it increases the weighting of planets in Capricorn, and is setting the energy for events that will occur throughout 2020, when Jupiter aligns with Pluto three times.

JUPITER is the Great Magnifier, and its passage through a sign usually corresponds with an amplification of the qualities and issues associated with that sign. While Jupiter has traveled through Sagittarius over the past year, we’ve seen an expansion of both the higher and lower vibrational qualities of Sag—on the one hand, greater idealism, generosity, and vision, but on the other hand, greater dogmatism, overspending, and self-righteousness. And, areas of life that Sagittarius rules have garnered more of our attention: trials and courts of law, international commerce and imports, foreign relations and agents, and long-distance communications/mobile networks (5G).

Over the next year, while Jupiter transits authoritative Capricorn, it is likely that we will be dealing individually with the need to be strong, to take charge in some area of our lives. We will see amplification of both ends of the frequency spectrum of Capricorn’s qualities—self-discipline, integrity, and the ability to commit to the long haul, but also materialism, rigidity, and pessimism/fear. Capricorn themes will likely dominate the headlines: corporations and authority figures, governments and politics, minerals and mines, aging and the elderly.

THE LAST TIME Jupiter transited Capricorn was December 2007 through January 2009. Perhaps as you review that year, you’ll see how you took on additional responsibility in some area of life. No doubt, you had to work hard but gained certain rewards as a result. Finding Capricorn in your birth chart can help in this review, to pinpoint more closely how events in 2008 related to Jupiter’s journey through the sign.

As an example from my own life, Capricorn is mostly contained in my Third House, which rules communication, information sharing, and siblings, among other things. In 2008, my sisters and I were in constant communication regarding our father’s well-being; my job was to keep in touch with the company that handled his elder care, to talk with his doctors and social workers, and eventually to find hospice care. It was a challenging time, but one of the ultimate rewards has been a stronger bond with my sisters, one that keeps us connected across the many miles that separate us physically.

AS SOON AS it enters Capricorn this week, Jupiter forms a square to Chiron, with the aspect perfecting next Sunday. We’re likely to get a snapshot of some of the less palatable manifestations of Jupiter in Capricorn with this aspect. Jupiter will be magnifying the wounds represented by Chiron in Aries: a lack of self confidence, the fear of asking for what we want, and an underlying belief that we’ll not be able to have what we want in life. With this aspect, authority figures may “put their foot down,” triggering those wounds of Chiron in Aries.

On a personal level, especially in our places of business (ruled by Capricorn), we’ll want to watch any tendencies to barrel through issues by simply taking an authoritarian stance or “going it alone”—typical Capricorn traits—instead of taking the time to work with others. As we take off our blinders, honoring everyone’s position and contributions, we help heal that Chironic wound, in ourselves and others.

RELATIONSHIPS are highlighted this week, especially those that have roots in the past—whether earlier in this life or in other incarnations. Venus is conjunct the karmic South Node in Capricorn on Monday, bringing up old heart contracts so that we might resolve remaining issues. There is also a Mercury-Pluto sextile on Monday, which provides an opening for an honest exchange of ideas and opinions. And, the Sagittarius Sun aligns with Pallas Athene on Monday as well, helping us see the bigger picture through the eyes of wisdom.

As the week unfolds, there is additional support for a successful handling of whatever might arise. Venus moves on to sextile Mars (on Tuesday) and Neptune (on Sunday). These aspects represent opportunities to formulate new agreements that are based in mutual respect for individual needs, and to rise above the ego’s need to be in full control.

NEXT SUNDAY, in addition to the Jupiter-Chiron square and the Venus-Neptune sextile, a Sun-Neptune square is in effect. If we’ve been feeling stress, this aspect can give us the excuse to just coast for a while. It is a square, however, so there’s a challenge involved.

We tend to be more energetically porous with hard Neptune transits, so we’ll need to be aware of where we might play the victim card, or where we tend to take on the role of rescuer or martyr. If situations arise that feel uncomfortable, we can see if we have any beliefs that prevent us from maintaining strong boundaries—such as, “I’m not being spiritual if I have any needs of my own.”

This common misconception of what “true spirituality” means gives us more insights into the issues we’ve been working with throughout the week. Occurring together on Sunday, the Sun-Neptune and Jupiter-Chiron squares require us to acknowledge our value as an individual, to accept that we were given (chose) desires and needs as a part of the expression of our Soul in this physical body. We are learning the differences between being of service and being a servant, and between martyrdom and true selflessness.

IF YOUR BIRTHDAY IS THIS WEEK: This year you are discovering more about the spiritual component of your life. The lessons of such a year involve learning greater trust and faith, staying in tune with your intuition, allowing your Divine Self to guide your actions, and being open to the counsel offered to you from your spiritual support team. Along the way, you will have opportunities to let go of old beliefs and mindsets, and to move more comfortably with the flow of energy through your life. (Solar Return Sun square Neptune)

In Gratitude and Light,

Pam

Your weekly guide to planetary influences

November 18 to 24, 2019

Aspects of Note This Week

All times listed are Pacific Standard Time. For Greenwich Mean Time, add 8 hours.

MON: Mercury semisquare Jupiter, Mars enters Scorpio
TUE: Jupiter conjunct Galactic Center
WED: Mars sesquiquadrate Neptune, Mercury stations direct
THU: Mars quincunx Chiron
FRI: Sun enters Sagittarius
SAT: Mercury semisquare Venus, Sun trine Chiron, Venus conjunct Galactic Center

SUN: Venus conjunct Jupiter, Mars opposite Uranus, Sun semisquare Saturn

THE SENSATION of being suspended between dimensions has been increasing this past week, as Jupiter has drawn closer and closer to its exact alignment with the Galactic Center (GC). This is the point in space around which our Milky Way galaxy orbits, similar to how Earth orbits around the Sun.

The GC emits infrared energies that affect us in various ways, causing an acceleration in our spiritual growth. If we clear our minds and listen, it also is a source of high-level information that we can access and download, through conscious channeling.

With our experience of the GC’s energies heightened now, we are drawn more easily into an altered state. We’re probably able to function in the “real world” as needed, but there’s also a feeling that part of our consciousness is existing in another version of reality—even if we can’t mentally grasp what that reality is.

WE MAY ALSO be experiencing manifestations on other levels, with strange symptoms occurring in our physical bodies. Philip Sedgwick*, an acknowledged expert on the influences of the GC, explains that the infrared vibration emanated by the GC “jostles the Root Chakra.”

Since the GC shakes up this energy center, which represents our physical foundation and anchors us to the Earth, it makes “sense” that we might literally be wobbly-legged right now, feeling lightheaded, or simply sensing that we’re not inhabiting our bodies in the usual way. Physically, we may experience dizziness, a slight out-of-body sensation, or an unexplained weakness.

JUPITER is the Great Magnifier, amplifying the effects of whatever it touches. As it reaches the exact degree of the GC this week, we will continue to feel other-worldly, as that flow of infrared energy is channeled powerfully in our direction. We will also continue what Mr. Sedgwick calls a process of “defragging” our mental and emotional bodies, where old data and patterns are deleted, making space available for new information and behaviors to be written.

Jupiter
aligns with the GC every 12 years or so, as it nears the end of its routine transit of Sagittarius. So, why do the effects of the alignment seem especially heightened this time around?

PART OF THE ANSWER lies in the effects of the Saturn-Pluto conjunction in Capricorn, an influence that has been building in strength throughout 2019, and is now nearing its January 2020 zenith. This planetary pairing is dismantling the systems, structures, and constructs of our reality, in preparation for a major evolutionary shift. We see it clearly in the world around us, but must consider how the process is also occurring in other ways—such as the breakdown of old personality patterns that no longer support us.

This dismantling, on all the levels on which it is occurring, has removed certain barriers and opened new energetic pathways for the effects of the GC to reach us more directly. Jupiter’s alignment with the GC is increasing the flow of that energy. As a result, we’re receiving a more powerful upgrade to the operating systems that have been running the hologram of our current reality.

AS THE ENERGIES of the Jupiter-GC alignment “jostle” our root chakras, we can of course feel destabilized. But that feeling of being slightly off-balance encourages us to walk differently and more consciously through our day. The lightheadedness, that feeling of sometimes being in a half-dream state, enables us to perceive reality from a new vantage point, and also enables us to receive new information and insights.

There are many reasons to appreciate the semi-altered mental state we currently are experiencing. Mr. Sedgwick writes that “the Galactic Center radiates brilliant insight to anyone connected with it. At all times, new and newer insights spew forth.” If we were to be fully focused in physical reality, fully connected to and able to focus on our “real” life, how open would we be to the brilliant insights that are being broadcast to us from the GC, and magnified by Jupiter?

ADDING another spice to this week’s already-enticing cosmic stew is the planet Venus, now also traveling through the last degrees of Sagittarius. Venus will align with the GC on Saturday, and then conjoins Jupiter on Sunday.

Venus rules the arts, our aesthetic, our ability to create beauty, and our capacity to express human love. The inclusion of Venus in the Jupiter-GC energy field makes this week an excellent time for any creatively inspired artistic activity where we utilize both the left and right sides of our brains. The Venus-GC alignment may also provide new insights in the area of personal relations, helping us see beyond the filters that might cloud our perceptions of others and our relationship with them.

Another facet of the GC’s influence, according to Mr. Sedgwick, is that it “pushes out mentally/emotionally stored data to clear space for new information to enter both the conscious and subconscious minds.” If we consider this within the context of personal relationships, this can be a very good week for letting go of the past, and for releasing the mental/emotional patterns within us that have repeatedly manifested challenging relationships.

OTHER significant events in the astrological news this week include the completion of Mercury’s retrograde phase on Wednesday and Mars’ ingress into Scorpio on Monday, which sets the stage for a Mars-Uranus opposition next Sunday.

Mercury has been retrograde in Scorpio since October 31, a day that some may recall as being especially pivotal. We’ve been compelled to confront some inner demons ever since that date, as the Messenger Planet has turned on the heat and required us to seek the truth at the heart of the matter. What we’ve discovered, both about ourselves and about others, may not have been especially pleasant; but our new and deeper understanding will ultimately enable us to move forward with greater clarity.

Once Mercury begins to move forward again, there can be a subtle lightening of the emotional weight of these past three weeks; however, Mercury will be in its “shadow phase” until December 7. This is when it moves beyond the degree at which it went retrograde. Until that date, we will continue to process and integrate the events and insights of this retrograde period, as a necessary step of moving beyond victimization and into empowerment.

NEXT SUNDAY’S Mars-Uranus opposition is likely to create some disturbances, as this combination of planets represents the sudden release of assertive/aggressive energies. On a personal level, we can maintain our balance by observing where we might tend to be too-quickly impatient or irritated. If we are very self-aware, we can find productive ways to move the energy, instead of allowing it to blast out at whoever seems to be “causing” the feelings of anger to arise in us.

When Mars and Uranus interact, there’s always the potential for impulsive or erratic behavior. We are more likely to be reactive, rather than calmly considering our options. With Mars in retentive Scorpio at the time of the opposition, actions that seem unexpected or sudden may actually arise from long-held resentments or feelings of jealousy or betrayal that have been percolating beneath the surface.

This is the energy of a sudden revelation that potentially alters our course. Any Mars-Uranus interaction gives us the opportunity to take a new road, to go in a new direction that is more personally fulfilling. Decisions that we make under this influence are often profound and truly game-changing.

IF YOUR BIRTHDAY IS THIS WEEK: At the heart of your experience this coming year is the potential for a deep healing of your self-confidence. The changes that are occurring in the world and in your own life may feel disruptive, but your inner courage and deep insights are your allies through any challenge. Your innate capacities for sympathy and kindness, as well as your psychic sensitivity, will also serve you, enabling you to be a support to those who might not have your emotional strength.
